SET UP WITH CONFIDENCE
01 — 04
THE FIRST STEP MATTERS 01

A safer start
is a simple one.

“Not your keys, not your coins” is more than a slogan. A hardware wallet keeps your private keys protected while giving you control of your assets. The official setup flow guides you through firmware installation, wallet creation, and backup verification—one deliberate step at a time.

A new Trezor arrives without firmware installed. That’s intentional: you install authentic firmware yourself, in a trusted environment. Start by typing trezor.io/start directly into your browser rather than following a search ad or an unfamiliar link.

YOUR SETUP, STEP BY STEP 02

Four steps to
self-custody.

Follow the prompts on your Trezor and in Trezor Suite. Take your time—especially when creating and verifying your backup.

01
STEP 01About 5 minutes

Download Trezor Suite

Start from the official Trezor setup page and download Trezor Suite for Windows, macOS, or Linux. The desktop app is the recommended way to manage your wallet and keeps setup in a dedicated environment.

Download only from trezor.io/start or trezor.io/trezor-suite. Check the address carefully before you install.
02
STEP 02Device check

Connect and authenticate

Open Suite and connect your device with the supplied USB cable. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the latest firmware. Compatible newer models also run an authenticity check to help confirm your device is genuine.

A new Trezor ships without firmware by design. Install firmware through Suite—not from a file sent to you.
03
STEP 03Keep it offline

Create your wallet and back it up

Choose “Create new wallet” for a fresh setup. Your device generates a recovery seed—typically 12, 20, or 24 words. Write every word, in order, on the recovery card while following the prompts on your device.

Never photograph, type, copy, or store your recovery words on an internet-connected device.
04
STEP 04Don’t skip this

Verify your backup and set a PIN

Your device will ask you to confirm selected words from your backup. Take your time: this catches mistakes before you need the backup. Then set a PIN and enter it on your Trezor device whenever you connect.

The recovery words restore your wallet; the PIN protects access to the device. They serve different purposes.
YOUR MOST IMPORTANT SECRET

Your recovery seed is yours alone.

It is the only way to restore your wallet if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. Trezor Support will never ask for it. Anyone who does is trying to steal your assets. Write it down and store it offline in a secure place—consider a second protected physical location.

NEVER
SHARE
AFTER INITIAL SETUP 03
YOUR DAILY WALLET INTERFACE

Meet your
control center.

Once your device is initialized, Trezor Suite becomes your companion for viewing and managing supported crypto assets while your private keys remain protected by your hardware wallet.

Explore Trezor Suite

One place for your portfolio

View supported accounts, balances, and transaction history from a single interface.

More ways to manage assets

Explore supported buy, sell, swap, and staking services through integrated providers.

Privacy controls

Use features such as Tor connectivity and discreet mode where available.

Availability varies by asset, location, and third-party provider. Always verify the details on your device before approving a transaction.

A FEW THINGS TO AVOID 04

Small shortcuts.
Big risks.

Stay deliberate. A few careful habits protect your wallet long after setup is finished.

01

Skipping firmware updates

Install firmware updates prompted by Trezor Suite to benefit from important improvements and security fixes.

02

Saving your seed digitally

Cloud drives, photos, password managers, and email drafts can be exposed remotely. Keep your backup offline.

03

Rushing the backup check

Confirm the requested words with care. Verification can catch an error before you depend on your backup.

04

Trusting a lookalike link

Check the address bar yourself. Avoid sponsored search results, unsolicited messages, and unofficial downloads.
